Leaked White House Budget Reveals Plan for Major Cuts to HHS
Just a few weeks after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a major reorganization to its structure and agencies, a preliminary fiscal year (FY) 2026 budget document was leaked from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), providing more detail about the reorganization. This document, referred to as a passback budget, is a preliminary document in the development of the President’s annual budget request and is subject to change as it gets “passed back” between OMB and HHS. It includes a $40 billion cut to HHS, and other policy changes that would significantly impact SGIM’s priority programs.
