Biography
Bernice Ruo, MD, is a fellowship-trained general academic internist and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. As a clinician educator, her favorite part of teaching is inspiring medical students and residents to develop effective communication skills and practice evidence-based medicine. Dr. Ruo’s research interests include quality of life assessment, mental health, and cardiovascular disease. She is a self-proclaimed “nerdy clinician-educator who enjoys thinking about curriculum assessment, mentoring, and faculty development and who, after work, metamorphosizes into a distance swimmer, classical ballet dancer, and biscotti baker.”
She has been involved in SGIM since being a GIM fellow at UCSF. She has presented research abstracts and teaching workshops. She has been a TEACH scholar and a TEACH faculty member. She is delighted to lead the SW region this year and is excited about planning the first SW regional meeting in New Mexico!
